Rural Mobility
Overview
Overview
Residents across the Kootenay region face real challenges getting around. Limited access to transportation options, long distances, and the high cost of owning and maintaining a personal vehicle can make it difficult to access essential services, work, and full participation in community life.
The Rural Mobility Community Advisory Committee (RMCAC), established in 2025, brings together community voices from across the region to explore solutions to these challenges.
The RMCAC endeavors to support a more connected and accessible regional transportation network, helping ensure that all residents and groups have affordable, reliable, and sustainable options for moving around their communities. We are focused on building a “mobility mosaic” that better reflects the needs of rural communities.
What We’re Working On
So far, the RMCAC has focused on supporting:
- Cycling education
- Active transportation routes and planning
- Improvements to regional transit servicing
- Regional carshare, rideshare, and bikeshare programs
- Regional transportation network mapping
- Regional community-led transportation services and programs
Get Involved
The RMCAC meets every other month, and meetings and membership are open to the public.
You can:
- Attend meetings
- Review agendas and minutes
- Share your input on transportation challenges and opportunities

Survey
Rural Mobility Survey
The RDCK is exploring how to better support transportation planning across our communities. Your input will help identify priorities for regional planning, advocacy, and partnership. Not all transportation decisions fall within RDCK's direct authority, some are shared with BC Transit, the Province, or local municipalities, but your responses will inform how we engage with those partners on your behalf.
